What is the difference between a Public APN and Private APN?
APN stands for Access Point Name. It is the name of a gateway and point of entry onto the IP network (internet) from a mobile network. Public APN is the default option that is associated with all SIM subscriptions of a given mobile network. APN names are set up on each cellular device's settings. The Public APN allows devices access to the Internet without any additional steps or firewalling (often called "open internet". A Private APN, (also called Corporate APN, Enterprise APN or Custom APN) is used to access a specific private network. Here, the SIM subscription must be provisioned on this specific APN gateway, and APN settings have to be updated in the cellular device. Here, the traffic flows directly from the device via the mobile network to a managed private network, where it terminates. This traffic does not travel across the normal internet.
What is Pooled Data and how does it benefit my business?
Pooled Data is a key feature of the Managed Private APN product. It allows all your SIMs & devices to draw from a shared pool of mobile data. This pool is also shared between SIMs from Vodacom and MTN and bills data in 1kb increments. This creates efficiency, avoids data expiry, and removes the risk of out-of-bundle data costs ensuring maximum cost-effectiveness.
How much does SIMcontrol cost?
Total cost of SIM ownership has three cost components: SIM supply & activation, monthly network and management fees and data cost. The cost of using SIMcontrol depends on the size of your SIM fleet and the type of SIM and mobile data options you require.
